New Vibes

New Vibes is a Brooklyn-based vibraphone, saxophone, and drum trio. They busk and compose music in McCarren Park, Washington Square Park, and all around NYC. New Vibes combines shifting minimalist rhythmic elements with lyrical saxophone lines and hard-smacking hip-hop grooves, all connected through improvisation. Their music is informed by nature and art, especially when it coincides with the “New Vibes Aesthetic” project. They are all full-time musicians intending to find performance opportunities for New Vibes at art galleries/installations, eccentric cafes, new music venues, meditation events, and festivals.

New Vibes’ percussionists Frank Lao and Josh Plath believe in efficiency of motion. Clean movement makes for good tone and paints lines in the negative space above their instruments. Saxophonist Alex Blade Silver communicates brilliant melodies and counter-rhythms through movement of his instrument and body.

New Vibes often work in long form material with the specific goal of finding trance and meditation through music.
